How To Play Badminton
The first thing you will need is a playing area in your back yard which measures approximately seventeen feet wide for matches played with two people, one on each side, or twenty feet wide for matches which are played with four people, two players on each side. The length of the court is approximately forty-four feet if you have sufficient room. Place the net in the approximate middle of your playing area, then divide by two and measure out the lengths as well as the widths for each side. You will need to distinctively mark each of the three boundary lines on both sides of the playing area or court. Yard paint like what is used on a football or baseball field is excellent, or you can just use white flour when in a pinch.
The objective of the game is simple, that is to hit the shuttle over the net so that it lands in your opponent’s court before it can be returned. You can hit the shuttle fast, slow, high, flat or low. You can smash it with maximum power or use the most delicate touch shots. A rally is started when the shuttle is returned. Each rally begins with a stroke known as the serve. This gets the shuttle into play, and from then on you will be engaged in a battle to outwit your opponent by using strokes which aim to increase your chances of winning that rally.
Badminton is an exciting, indoor or outdoor, racquet sport you can play with some friends or play competitively through a club. Once it has been set up it will stand about five feet high. You should be able to purchase one at most good sporting goods retailers. Find the middle of your court and get your net in place. Then divide by two and measure out the lengths and widths for either side of the court (the area where each player or pair of players will stand).
